SOLE’s SnowSchool Experience Program Receives a $10,000 Grant!

We empower youth to explore, achieve, and lead outdoors."

We are VERY excited to announce that Selkirk Outdoor Leadership & Education (SOLE), Inc. and our partners, the Lake Pend Oreille School District, have been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Pandhandle Alliance for Education (PAFE) for SOLE’s SnowSchool Experience program!

Because of this generous grant award 5th grade teachers and students in LPOSD will again have the opportunity to explore > achieve > lead again during during the 2015-2016 school year!  Monies will fully fund these programs from start to finish and will include (3) separate SnowSchool Experience SM programming days for each youth!

IMG_6050SOLE SnowSchool Experiences SM are winter experiential education programs for 4th – 12th grade youth, which focus on outdoor living and travel skills, winter ecology and snow science.  During these dynamic and intentional programs teachers and students receive a well-balanced experiential curriculum that is aligned to standards while also receive an opportunity for structured free-play.  SOLE custom-tailors all experiential programs including that which the LPOSD 5th graders will receive – to ensure students receive a top-notch program that reaches well beyond traditional norms.  This programming is perfect for schools located in mountain-based communities, and SOLE is looking forward to continuing to offer these programs at our established site locations in North Idaho, Northwestern Montana, and Eastern Washignton.

Did you know that during SOLE’s SnowSchool Experience programs many students snowshoe, experience, and learn about their local mountains and watershed for the first time?

Yup, that’s right – despite proximity many of our local area are not able to afford these transformational experiential education programs due to socioeconomic barriers.  What are we doing about it?  SOLE continues to work diligently to secure funding for 4th – 12th grade youth at all SnowSchool Experience SM sites in Idaho, Montana, and Washington.  Funding will ensure SOLE will be able to secure permits with land management agencies, purchase movable yurts to serve as multi-use classroom spaces; acquire outdoor and snow science equipment; provide transportation expenses for schools; and fund high quality Field Instructors.   Providing support for these resources will ensure that youth throughout the Inland Northwest will have access to these incredible outdoor experiences.  If you can assist us with these needs please contact us today or donate here.
